La Fundación TAEDA tuvo el agrado de acompañar a TAEDA Editora en la presentación de su último libro,La casa está en orden (Memoria de la transición), del Dr. Horacio Jaunarena; realizada el pasado jueves 30 de junio, en el Palacio Balcarce de esta Capital.
La presentación de la obra contó con la participación de destacados oradores: el dirigente radical Jesús Rodríguez, secretario general del Comité Nacional de la Unión Cívica Radical (UCR); el politólogo Guillermo O’Donnell y el filósofo Santiago Kovadloff. En sus exposiciones, los oradores destacaron la relevancia de este libro en cuanto testimonio de nuestro pasado histórico reciente y realizaron una semblanza del Dr. Jaunarena y de su paso por la gestión pública.
A su turno, el autor explicó que el título de su libro pretende reivindicar las palabras del entonces presidente Raúl Alfonsín al dirigirse a la ciudadanía tras los episodios de Semana Santa de 1987. El ex ministro destacó que la frase fue “tergiversada”, pasando a la historia con una connotación negativa y olvidando que las palabras textuales del Dr. Alfonsín fueron “La casa está en orden y no hay sangre en la Argentina”. Subrayó también el gran esfuerzo del primer gobierno constitucional tras la restauración democrática por lograr una reconstitución de las Fuerzas Armadas “en su papel específico” y la “reconciliación definitiva de los argentinos”.
A pedido de Jaunarena, dirigió luego unas palabras al público presente el Dr. Ricardo Alfonsín, invitado especialmente al evento, quien enfatizó la importancia de la obra, reflejo de un período histórico único:“La transición argentina es un ejemplo en el mundo”, destacó, afirmando asimismo que los argentinos “no tuvimos conciencia de la excepcionalidad del momento” en el que había que “hacer justicia con el pasado y consolidar los derechos humanos hacia adelante, para no poner en riesgo la democracia futura”.
Asistieron a esta presentación, el ya citado Dr. Ricardo Alfonsín y numerosos integrantes del gabinete de su padre, entre los que destacaron el ex secretario de Hacienda, Mario Brodersohn; el ex ministro del Interior, Enrique Nosiglia, el ex ministro de Trabajo, Juan Manuel Casella; el ex presidente del Banco Central, José Luis Machinea; y el ex diputado nacional Marcelo Stubrin. También estuvieron presentes el ministro de Seguridad de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Guillermo Montenegro, el fiscal Carlos Stornelli; los constitucionalistas José Miguel Onaindia y Félix Loñ; el ex director de la Biblioteca Nacional, Horacio Salas; el ex embajador argentino en EEUU, Diego Guelar, el escritor Jorge Asís, el periodista Juan Bautista “Tata” Yofre, entre otros destacadísimos representantes de nuestro quehacer político e intelectual.
Sobre el autor y la obra
Horacio Jaunarena ha sido un actor clave en la política argentina durante más de veinte años. Ministro de Defensa de los gobiernos de Raúl Alfonsín, Fernando De la Rúa y Eduardo Duhalde, ha sido protagonista y testigo directo de muchas de las decisiones que marcaron el rumbo del país durante y después de la transición de la democracia. Este libro recorre el largo camino de su vida política a través del testimonio atrapante y vívido de quien ha actuado en las altas esferas del poder.
La casa está en orden se concentra en el núcleo de su actuación pública: la difícil reinserción de las Fuerzas Armadas en el orden constitucional. Fundación TAEDA was pleased to endorse TAEDA Editora in the presentation of its latest book, La casa está en orden (Memoria de la transición) The house is in order (Memory of a Transition), by Dr. Horacio Jaunarena; held last June 30th at Palacio Balcarce in the Federal District.
Distinguished speakers delivered their messages during the presentation of the book, namely: Radical party leader Jesús Rodríguez, the Secretary General of the National Executive Board of Unión Cívica Radical (UCR); political scientist Guillermo O’Donnell and philosopher Santiago Kovadloff. In their addresses, the speakers highlighted the relevance of this book as a testimony of our recent historic past and made a brief description of Dr. Jaunarena’s life and his involvement in the public administration.
In turn, the author explained that the title of his book intends to vindicate the words articulated by the then President Raúl Alfonsín in his address to the people after the events of Holy Week in 1987. The former Minister stressed that the meaning of the phrase was “distorted”, going down in history with a negative connotation and forgetting that Dr. Alfonsin’s actual words were “The house is in order and there has been no bloodshed in Argentina. He also placed emphasis on the efforts made by the first constitutional government after democracy was re-established to reorganize the Armed Forces so that they “would play their specific role” and to achieve the “the final reconciliation of the Argentines.”
Upon Jaunarena’s request, Dr. Ricardo Alfonsín, who was a special guest to this event, addressed the audience. He expressed the importance of this book that depicts a unique historic period: “The transition of Argentina is an example to the world,” he said, asserting as well that Argentines “were unaware of what an exceptional situation they were going through” in which “justice had to be done to heal the past and human rights had to be consolidated so as not to jeopardize the future democracy.”
Among the attendees were the above-mentioned Dr. Ricardo Alfonsín and several distinguished cabinet members of his father’s administration such as former Secretary of the Treasury, Mario Brodershon, former Minister of the Interior, Enrique Nosiglia, former Labor Minister Juan Manuel Casella, former Chairman of the Central Bank José Luis Machinea, and former National Representative Marcelo Stubrin, as well as the Minister of Security of the City of Buenos Aires, Guillermo Montenegro, Federal Prosecutor Carlos Stornelli; Constitutional Law experts José Miguel Onaindia and Félix Loñ; former Director of the National Library, Horacio Salas; former Argentine Ambassador to the USA, Diego Guelar, the writer Jorge Asís, the journalist Juan Bautista “Tata” Yofre, among other outstanding representatives of the political and intellectual life of our country.
About the author and his work
Horacio Jaunarena was a key player in the Argentine political life for more than twenty years. He served as Minister of Defense in the administrations of Raúl Alfonsín,
Fernando De la Rúa and Eduardo Duhalde. He has taken direct part and been a witness to many decisions that shaped the course of our country during and after the transition towards democracy. This book intends to explore the long path of his political life through the appealing and vivid testimony of someone who has been among the highest-level decision-making authorities.
The house is in order focuses on his involvement with public policies: the difficult reinsertion of the Armed Forces in the constitutional order. After five decades blighted by intolerance and institutional instability, those who took over in 1983 had to find responsible solutions to lay the foundations for the future political life of Argentina.
